Some Thoughts on Online Bingo Jackpots

Introduction

Bingo, in its traditional form, has been played across the world since time in memoriam, but the advent of the Internet, and online bingo websites, has brought the game to the attention of a whole new audience. Indeed, major online bingo sites in the United Kingdom are experiencing increases in player numbers of 10%, or more, daily, as testament to the popularity of the game in its new, more varied, form. There are two basic forms of online bingo, so-called `90-ball` bingo, the form traditionally played in the United Kingdom, and so-called `75-ball` bingo, an American version, which – the reduced number of bingo balls aside – also offers more variety in the bingo patterns to be formed.

Online Bingo Jackpot Games

A bingo jackpot game is, almost invariably, a `coverall` – also known as a `blackout`, or `full house` – game. As the name suggests, this game requires a player to mark off, or `daub`, all the numbers on his, or her, bingo card in order to win the game. There is also the additional caveat that this must be done with a specified number – typically 40, or 50 – of bingo balls being called. Coverall bingo is, unsurprisingly, the longest format of the game, and – befitting a jackpot game – often leads to a tense and exciting climax.

Many online bingo sites also offer what is known as a `progressive` jackpot game, which takes place at regular intervals throughout the week. Unlike some other jackpot games, where the size of the jackpot is dependent on the number of players, and the money coming in, a progressive jackpot often starts at an attractive amount – perhaps £100, or even £500 – contributed by the online promoter, itself. The game proceeds as normal, but if there is no winner within a specified number of calls, a proportion of the money paid for bingo cards is added to the jackpot, which then `rolls over` to the next progressive jackpot game. If the jackpot rolls over several times, it can quickly become a huge, life changing amount, and this is one of the reasons that progressive jackpot bingo games are so popular.

Online Bingo Tips & Strategies

Provided that an online bingo game is operated legitimately – and most online bingo sites, nowadays, pride themselves on their integrity, and security – no single bingo ball has a greater chance than any other of appearing in any particular game. This means that there is no `sure fire` way of guaranteeing that you will make a profit when you play bingo online, but there are one, or two, things that you can do to maximise your chance of winning, and your enjoyment of the game. Busy times, such as evenings, or weekends, are likely to produce larger individual prizes, but may reduce your overall chance of winning, so playing in the morning, or afternoon, for smaller, but potentially more frequent, wins, may be a better strategy. Some bingo players try to choose a selection of bingo cards where numbers are not duplicated, between cards, to maximise the chance of each number called appearing on at least one bingo card.
